CNY Inspired Adidas Shell Toes
To commemorate the Chinese New Year, the latest Adidas shell toe design employs the traditional Chinese art of paper cutting – a skill which goes way back to the Eastern Han dynasty of the 1st century AD.
It is by tradition that people would cut out different patterns of animals clouds, and flowers on a red sheet of paper. In return, this would be ‘carving out’ bad luck, while making room for good fortune and happiness.
Specific visual motifs include a rich mythology of the Chinese zodiac on each silhouette, with emphasis on the goat. Some of the early favorite designs are the Forum Hi and Superstar which have red and black colorways – both which are matching hues for this festivity.
